Dear brothers, sisters, and friends, peace be with you in the Lord!
Welcome to today's reading journey! Today, we are exploring Revelation Chapter 10 together.
Amidst the turbulence and uncertainty of this world, we can sometimes feel overwhelmed or fearful. Yet God's sovereign purposed speed never falters. Even in times of judgment, He provides warning, comfort, and direction for His people.
Let us approach today's scripture with reverence and open hearts, observing how the Apostle John received God's truth and internalized the sweet yet solemn responsibility of His holy Word.
Where are we today?
Revelation Chapter 10 acts as an interlude between the sixth trumpet (Chapter 9) and the seventh trumpet (Chapter 11). It introduces two primary themes:
The Mighty Angel and Seven Thunders (Revelation 10:1–7): John sees a mighty angel coming down from heaven, setting his right foot upon the sea and his left on the earth, holding a little book open. When he cries out, seven thunders utter their voices, but John is commanded to seal up what they said and write it not. The angel swears that time shall be no longer, and the mystery of God shall be finished when the seventh angel sounds.
John Eats the Little Book (Revelation 10:8–11): A voice from heaven commands John to take the little book and eat it up. In his mouth, it is "sweet as honey," but once swallowed, his belly becomes "bitter." John is then told that he must prophesy again before many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.
10 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,
3 And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.
4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.
5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.
9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.
10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
“And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:”
— Revelation 10:6 (KJV)
Sweet to Taste, Bitter to Digest: God's Word brings profound sweetness and hope to those who receive salvation. However, conveying the solemn realities of judgment and calling a fallen world to repentance carries spiritual weight and burden (bitterness). True disciples embrace both the comfort and the solemn commission of truth.
God's Mystery Will Be Fulfilled: No matter how chaotic history appears, God's sovereign plan of redemption and ultimate justice will not be delayed. In His appointed time, His full purpose will be realized.
A Question to Ponder:
When engaging with Scripture, do you tend to seek only the "sweet" promises while avoiding the "bitter" calls to repentance, sacrifice, and witness?
A Micro-Step Today:
