Dear brothers, sisters, and friends, peace be with you in the Lord!
Welcome to today's reading journey! Today, we are exploring 2 John Chapter 1 together.
In the modern world, people often separate "love" from "truth"—some promote tolerance at the expense of principles, while others defend rules without any grace. However, in God's kingdom, truth and love walk hand in hand.
Let us quiet our hearts as we receive this timeless message. Apostle John reminds us that true love lives according to God's commandments, and true doctrine guards our hearts in holy love.
Where are we today?
The Second Epistle of John was written by the Apostle John to "the elect lady and her children" (a local church and its members) to encourage remaining steadfast in Christ and guarding against false teachers who denied that Jesus Christ came in the flesh:
Walking in Truth and Love (2 John 1:1–6): John rejoices over those walking in truth and reiterates the commandment from the beginning: that we love one another. Love is defined as walking after God's commandments.
Warning Against Deceivers (2 John 1:7–13): John warns that many deceivers have entered the world. Believers are urged to look to themselves so they do not lose what was wrought. They must not receive or welcome those who bring false teaching, lest they participate in their evil deeds.
1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
13 The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
“And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.”
— 2 John 1:6 (KJV)
Love and Truth Belong Together: Love without truth degenerates into compromise; truth without love hardens into legalism. Christian love flourishes when anchored in God's revealed truth.
Spiritual Vigilance: Protecting our faith requires discernment. We are called to stand firm in the pure gospel of Christ while remaining compassionate in heart.
A Question to Ponder:
How can you better balance standing firm in scriptural truth while demonstrating Christlike love in your interactions with others?
A Micro-Step Today:
Reach out to a brother or sister in Christ today with a word of encouragement or a prayer, practicing love in truth through action.
Loving Heavenly Father,
Thank You for teaching us today through the Book of 2 John.
Lord, You are the source of all truth and love. Grant us spiritual discernment to stand firm on Your Word and guard against falsehood. Fill our hearts with Your grace so that we may obey Your commandments and truly love one another as You have commanded us.
May our lives reflect both the clarity of Your truth and the warmth of Your love every single day.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen!
