Dear brothers, sisters, and friends, peace be with you in the Lord!
Welcome to today's reading journey! Today, we are exploring Titus Chapter 2 together.
In our everyday interactions at home, work, and community, our conduct serves as a living testimony of our faith. How can we live in a way that adorns the gospel of Jesus Christ and brings honor to God's word?
Let's pause and take a quiet moment. Bringing a receptive heart, let's look into today's scripture to learn how God's grace trains us to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.
Where are we today?
Titus Chapter 2 offers practical instructions from Paul to Titus on pastoring various groups within the church:
Practical Guidelines for Every Group (Titus 2:1–10): Paul instructs Titus to teach what accords with sound doctrine. Aged men, aged women, young women, young men (with Titus setting a personal pattern of good works), and servants are exhorted unto soberness, gravity, love, obedience, and fidelity—so that the word of God be not blasphemed, but rather adorned in all things.
The Training Power of Grace (Titus 2:11–15): The grace of God that brings salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world—looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself to purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
2 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;
10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;”
— Titus 2:11–12 (KJV)
Faith Expressed in Daily Conduct: Sound doctrine is meant to produce healthy, holy lives. Whether as parents, youth, or workers, our integrity and kindness reflect the beauty of the gospel to the surrounding world.
Grace Trains and Transforms: Grace does not merely forgive past sins; it actively instructs us to reject worldly lusts and strengthens us to live godly lives while looking forward to Christ's return.
A Question to Ponder:
In your family or workplace, does your attitude reflect the grace and goodness of God? Is there a worldly habit or desire you need God's help to turn away from today?
A Micro-Step Today:
Choose one specific action today—such as offering a kind word, practicing self-control in speech, or showing diligence at work—to adorn the gospel in your sphere of influence.
Loving Heavenly Father,
