Let's observe how the early church used wisdom and love to handle internal friction, and witness how Stephen displayed extraordinary faith and serenity even when facing opposition.

Where are we today?

Acts Chapter 6 marks a vital turning point in the organization of the early church and introduces Stephen's ministry:

1. Seven Deacons Chosen (Acts 6:1–7): As the number of disciples grew, Grecians complained that their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. The apostles prioritised "prayer and the ministry of the word" and appointed seven spirit-filled men (including Stephen) to handle practical administrative duties, causing the word of God to increase greatly.

2. Stephen Accused and Arrested (Acts 6:8–15): Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great miracles. Opponents could not resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake, so they suborned false witnesses against him. Yet, as he stood before the council, all who sat there saw his face "as it had been the face of an angel."

6 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

🌟Daily Heart-Check: From "Distracted Friction" to "Quiet Grace"

• Wise Delegation and Shared Purpose: When facing administrative friction, the early church didn't ignore the issue, nor did the apostles try to do everything alone. By sharing responsibilities according to gifts, the ministry flourished. God gives each of us unique gifts; when we serve faithfully in our respective roles, harmony and strength follow.

• Heavenly Peace Overcomes Earthly Storms: Standing before false accusations and a hostile council, Stephen showed no panic or bitterness—his face shone "as it had been the face of an angel." This tranquility was an overflow of a heart filled with the Holy Spirit. When we stay anchored in God's presence, worldly misunderstandings cannot steal our deep peace.

Loving Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us Your word today as we read Acts Chapter 6.

When we read how the early church resolved practical grievances by appointing seven deacons through Your wisdom, we see the beauty of Your order and community care. Lord, we confess that when faced with heavy tasks or misunderstandings in our relationships, we often default to frustration and worry. Grant us wisdom and humility to communicate effectively and support one another in daily life, while preserving our hearts to prioritize prayer and dwelling in Your truth.

When we read of Stephen, full of faith and the Holy Spirit, whose face shone like that of an angel even amid false accusations and opposition, our hearts are deeply moved. Forgive us for the times we lose our composure or respond in anger when faced with unfairness or pressure. Pour out Your Holy Spirit afresh upon us, so that in every challenging circumstance, we may remain rooted in Your love, reflecting Your grace, patience, and unshakable peace.

Lord, we pray for our family and friends today, especially those experiencing conflict, workplace burnout, or feelings of being wronged. May Your comforting peace rest upon their hearts. Protect us as seekers and new believers, enabling us to grow daily and live out a vibrant, peaceful testimony of Your love.
