Dear brothers, sisters, and friends, peace be with you in the Lord!
Welcome to today's reading journey! Today, we are exploring 2 Timothy Chapter 3 together.
Amidst confusing societal trends, shifting morals, and changing worldviews, have you ever wondered how to find a firm foundation that never shakes? How can we stay grounded and discerning when surrounded by distractions?
Let's pause and take a quiet moment. Bringing a heart that longs for truth, let's step into today's reading to see how Paul directs Timothy—and us—to the eternal power and inspiration of God's Word.
Where are we today?
2 Timothy Chapter 3 contains Paul's solemn warning regarding the perilous last days and his solemn charge to hold fast to the Holy Scriptures:
Perilous Times in the Last Days (2 Timothy 3:1–9): Paul warns that difficult times will come, characterized by self-love, covetousness, pride, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, and having a form of godliness while denying its power.
Paul’s Example and Persecutions (2 Timothy 3:10–13): Paul reminds Timothy of his doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, and the persecutions he endured, assuring him that all who live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
The Authority and Power of Scripture (2 Timothy 3:14–17): Paul charges Timothy to continue in the things he has learned. He emphasizes that "all scripture is given by inspiration of God" and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness, thoroughly furnishing the believer for all good works.
3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was.
10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
— 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (KJV)
God's Word is Our Unshakable Anchor: In a world of changing cultural standards, Scripture serves as God-breathed truth that guides, corrects, and builds us up. It equips us with wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
Authentic Godliness Over External Form: True faith goes beyond mere external rituals or appearance. As we allow Scripture to shape our mind and habits, God transforms us from the inside out to perform every good work for His glory.
A Question to Ponder:
Is there an area in your daily life where worldly views are competing with biblical principles? How can Scripture offer clarity in that situation today?
