Dear brothers, sisters, and friends, peace be with you in the Lord!
Welcome to today's reading journey! Today, we are exploring Revelation Chapter 4 together.
When facing chaos, hardship, or uncertainty in this world, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious. However, Revelation Chapter 4 lifts our eyes above earth's turmoil to the throne room of heaven—where God still reigns supreme, and where unceasing, pure worship rises day and night.
Let us quiet our hearts and step into today's passage with reverence and awe, reaffirming that no matter how the world shifts, our God sits securely upon His throne.
Where are we today?
Revelation Chapter 4 marks a pivotal transition from the earthly churches (Chapters 2–3) to heavenly visions and divine judgment (Chapters 4–22). Chapter 4 focuses on two main themes:
The Heavenly Throne and the Four Living Creatures (Revelation 4:1–8): John sees a door standing open in heaven and is taken in the Spirit to behold God's throne, surrounded by a rainbow, lightnings, voices, thunders, and twenty-four elders. In the midst and around the throne are four living creatures who unceasingly proclaim: "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come."
Worship of the Twenty-Four Elders (Revelation 4:9–11): Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor to God, the twenty-four elders fall down, cast their crowns before the throne, and praise the Creator who created all things by His will.
4 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.
4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
— Revelation 4:11 (KJV)
God Remains on the Throne: Earthly circumstances and kingdoms may shake, but the throne of heaven remains immovable. Knowing God is in total control brings profound peace amidst life's storms.
Worship as Surrender: The twenty-four elders cast their crowns before the throne, symbolizing the surrender of all achievement, status, and control to God. True worship places God, not self, at the center of our lives.
A Question to Ponder:
Are there anxieties in your life right now because you have focused too much on earthly obstacles rather than God's sovereign throne?
A Micro-Step Today:
Take a short pause today (even just 3 minutes) to close your eyes, picture the heavenly worship, and whisper to God: "Lord, You alone are worthy; I release my worries into Your sovereign hands."
Loving Heavenly Father,
Thank You for speaking to us today through Revelation Chapter 4.
Lord, You are the Almighty God—who was, and is, and is to come. All things were created by Your will and for Your pleasure. Thank You for opening our spiritual eyes through John’s vision to see the majesty and glory of Your heavenly throne.
When we face challenges or chaos on earth, remind us that You are still reigning on Your throne. Teach us to follow the example of the heavenly elders—to lay down our own crowns of pride and control, giving all glory, honor, and power to You alone.
Fill our hearts with Your unshakable peace and faith as we live every day in awe of You.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen!
