This daily guide includes an opening greeting, context snapshot, key verse (KJV), devotional thoughts on "The Supremacy of Christ," reflection questions, space for a worship song, and a scripture-grounded closing prayer.
Dear brothers, sisters, and friends, peace be with you in the Lord!
Welcome to today's reading journey! Today, we begin an extraordinarily deep and encouraging book—the Book of Hebrews.
In our search for meaning and stability, where do we look? In ancient times, God spoke through prophets in various ways, but in these last days, He has spoken directly through His Son, Jesus Christ. Who is Jesus, and how does His glory transcend everything in the universe?
Let's pause and take a quiet moment. Bringing a worshipful heart, let's step into Chapter 1 to behold the supreme glory and majesty of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Where are we today?
Hebrews Chapter 1 serves as a majestic prologue and theological foundation for the entire book:
God’s Final Revelation in His Son (Hebrews 1:1–3): God, who spoke at various times and in diverse ways to the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son. The Son is appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds. He is the brightness of God's glory, the express image of His person, and upholds all things by the word of His power. Having purged our sins, He sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Christ Exalted Above Angels (Hebrews 1:4–14): The author demonstrates through multiple Old Testament scriptures that Christ has inherited a name far more excellent than angels. Angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation; but unto the Son, God says: "Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever."
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:
4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”
— Hebrews 1:3 (KJV)
The Ultimate Revelation: Jesus is not merely a great moral teacher or prophet; He is the exact expression of God's nature and glory. To know Jesus is to truly know the heart and character of the Father.
Resting in His Finished Work: Christ upholds the entire universe by His powerful word and has completely purged our sins through His sacrifice. His seat at the right hand of the Father assures us that our redemption is secure and His reign is eternal.
A Question to Ponder:
When world events or personal anxieties feel overwhelming, how does remembering that Jesus "upholds all things by the word of His power" offer you comfort and assurance today?
A Micro-Step Today:
Take a few moments today to pause, turn your thoughts away from current worries, and offer a quiet prayer of thanksgiving for Christ's supreme power and redemptive love.
Loving Heavenly Father,
Thank You for speaking to us today through Hebrews Chapter 1.
Lord Jesus, we praise You as the brightness of God's glory and the express image of His person. Thank You for upholding all things by the word of Your power, and above all, for purging our sins through Your supreme sacrifice and sitting down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Open our eyes to see Your supreme beauty and power. Help us not to look to temporary things for security, but to fix our eyes on You, our glorious Savior and King.
We commit our loved ones and friends into Your gracious hands today. May Your peace and truth guard our hearts.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen!
