Dear brothers, sisters, and friends, peace be with you in the Lord!
Welcome to today's reading journey! Today, we are exploring 1 John Chapter 1 together.
In our daily lives, we all long for authentic and deep relationships without pretense. Yet, shame and hidden sin often act as shadows, separating us from true fellowship with God and with one another. How can we break free from pretense and walk in genuine joy and peace?
Let's pause and bring an honest, reverent heart to today's scripture. Apostle John shares his personal witness of the "Word of life," inviting us to step out of darkness and walk in God's marvelous light.
Where are we today?
The First Epistle of John was written to strengthen believers' confidence in the incarnate Christ and guard against early false teachings. Chapter 1 introduces two foundational themes:
The Word of Life and Fellowship (1 John 1:1–4): John testifies of that which was from the beginning—the Word of life—which he heard, saw, and handled. He declares this to believers so that they may have fellowship with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, making their joy full.
God is Light and Cleansing from Sin (1 John 1:5–10): God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
— 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
Walking in Light Requires Honesty: Walking in the light does not mean being instantly flawless, but rather living in total transparency before God. It means bringing our flaws into His presence rather than covering them up.
Anchored in God's Faithfulness: Our forgiveness rests on God's unchanging faithfulness and justice, secured through Christ's sacrifice. When we confess, His promise to cleanse us is absolute.
A Question to Ponder:
Is there any unconfessed sin or hidden burden in your life that you have been reluctant to bring before God?
A Micro-Step Today:
Take a few quiet moments to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart. Offer an honest prayer of confession, and receive God's gift of forgiveness and peace.
