Welcome to Day 89 of our reading journey! Today, we complete the final chapter of the Gospel of Mark—Chapter 16.

Have you ever experienced a moment of total hopelessness in your life? Perhaps a broken relationship that couldn't be mended, a devastating setback, or an irreversible loss that left you feeling like "everything is over and the stone has been sealed shut"? Just like Mary Magdalene and the women walking toward Jesus' tomb early that morning, their hearts were weighed down with grief, anxiously asking: "Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?"

Let's pause and take a quiet moment. Holding our burdens, doubts, and longing for hope, let's step into today's scripture together and discover how God rolls away the heavy stones in our lives on that glorious morning.

Where are we today?

Mark Chapter 16 records the most ultimate breakthrough in Christian faith—the Resurrection of Jesus Christ:

1. The Empty Tomb and the Angel's Message (Mark 16:1–8): Mary Magdalene and other women bring spices to anoint Jesus, only to find the massive stone already rolled away. An angel declares to them: "He is risen; he is not here!"

2. The Risen Lord Appears (Mark 16:9–14): Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene and two disciples on the road, but the others struggle to believe. Jesus later appears to the eleven, addressing their unbelief while lovingly strengthening them.

3. The Great Commission and Ascension (Mark 16:15–20): Jesus commands His disciples to "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature," after which He is received up into heaven to sit at the right hand of God as the disciples go forth working with Him.

16 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?

4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.

8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.

9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.

11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.

12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.

13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

🌟Daily Heart-Check:  From "Anxious Grief" to "Resurrection Hope" 

• God Rolls Away the Heavy Stones: On their way, the women worried about how they would move the heavy tombstone by themselves. Yet when they looked up, God had already rolled it away. The dead ends, insurmountable obstacles, and sealed doors in our lives are never the final word in God's presence.

• Love Overcomes Death: Jesus did not remain in a cold grave; death and darkness could not hold the Prince of Life. The resurrection announces that suffering, sin, and despair have met their ultimate defeat. In Jesus, despair is never the end of the story—new life has begun.

Loving Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us Your word today as we read Mark Chapter 16 and complete our journey through the Gospel of Mark.

When we read of Mary Magdalene and the women walking nervously toward the tomb early in the morning, only to find the massive stone rolled away and hear the angel declare, "He is risen; he is not here," our hearts are filled with awe and joy. Lord, we confess that in life we often feel crushed by immediate hardships, worrying like those women about who will roll away our heavy stones. Thank You for reminding us through today's passage that You are not only the Lord who conquered death and darkness, but also the God who opens a way when we see no way forward. Help us fix our eyes not on the obstacles before us, but on Your resurrection power.

When we read how the disciples struggled with doubt and fear upon hearing the news, yet Jesus drew near to address their weakness, restore them, and commission them to carry the gospel to the world, our souls receive profound comfort. Forgive us for the doubts that creep into our hearts when we look at our circumstances. Thank You for never abandoning us in our small faith. Grant us steady faith, fill us with Your resurrected life, and empower us to be witnesses of Your joy and hope in our daily lives.

Lord, we pray for our family and friends today, especially those trapped in despair, grief, or seemingly hopeless situations. May the light of Your resurrection shine into their hearts and roll away their heavy stones. Preserve us as seekers and new believers as we conclude the Gospel of Mark, enabling us to walk daily with our living Savior in the journey ahead.
